KimN ~ New Moon

New Moon ~ Stephanie Meyer

Everyone knows which movie came out today.  I’m going to see it on Sunday, hoping that it doesn’t suck as much as the 1st adaptation did!  Anyhow, I thought I’d try to fit a re-read of New Moon to refresh my memory of what the storyline is supposed to be so I can compare it to the movie version!

~ I finished this a while ago and read another book in between… whoops, I need to keep up!  Comments on the movie adaptation… better than Twilight, pretty true to the book, but still not great.  Rereading the book though was just as good as the first time! Obviously!  I can’t wait to re-read books 3 and 4 now.

KimN ~ I Know This Much Is True

I Know This Much Is True ~ Wally Lamb

iktmitI vaguely remember reading Lamb’s novel She’s Come Undone a looong time ago.  Anyhow, I picked this book up at a used book sale in Whistler on the long weekend – prior to finding it at the sale,  I almost bought it at Chapters!  I don’t really know much about what the novel is about, because I picked it based on the cover… so here goes nothing!

~ I finished this book last weekend.  I think I’m still processing how I felt about it, and getting over how long it was and how long it too me to read it – 897 pages!  Longest book I’ve read in a long time… it actually wasn’t as hard to read as I thought an almost 900 page book would be.

The book was ok – I don’t think I’d say good or great… definitely not one of my favourite books ever, but it did have its interesting moments.  As you may have guessed from the cover, this novel is about twins – Thomas and Dominick.  In the first chapter you find out that Thomas is schizophrenic and has cut off his hand.  Dominick appears to be the ‘steady’ twin, until you read on and see his life unravel and become clearer in through his own eyes.

I do have to say, though, that Lamb is a very good writer – easy to read and great at conveying emotions and painting a vivid story.

Read this one if you are interested in a long read, and in twins.

Nic ~ I Forgot!

I’m not entirely sure, but I think I may have forgotten how to read.  Illiteracy is rearing it’s ugly head.  Sometimes life just takes so much work, and you don’t get to do all the things you really love!  That being said, I have been doing some other things that I DO love, thank goodness (check them out on my other blog).  I’ve been learning about my camera and taking classes on it, and I’ve been learning how to make fancy iced cookies and I’ve been working….alot.  Ok.  That last one is not one of my favourite things, but it still needs doing, sometimes, I guess…

All that being said, I am about to commit to some serious reading.  I miss it! My brain feels all mushy.  You know it’s bad when you look at something that contains more than 3 paragraphs and it makes you want to take a nap…so, time for a tune up, and then off to the races!  This week I am undergoing a surgery, and I have a MINIMUM of 6 weeks off work.  For the first few I will have limited mobility.  For some, this would spell certain insanity.  For me, it spells R-E-A-D.  Also, it spells a little bit of insanity.  But I will make lemonade, or something like that.

I have at the LEAST about 30 books that i have already purchased, and still not read.  I’m a little bit of a book monger.  I’m sure that I can do a book a week, if not more.  I have the new Niffenegger sitting and waiting all pretty, as well as some Dostoevsky that I have been promising to open.  Exciting.

Dear Books.

I’ve marked you down in PEN, literature.  Let’s you and I have a date…

ever yours, untill my sight goes.
